Westray is a fairly large and well-populated island, home to around 600 people. The main industries of fish farming, farming, fishing and tourism help support islanders to live sustainably. The community are proud of their rich cultural heritage and display archaeological treasures in the Heritage Centre in Pierowall. A visit to Westray provides visitors with a chance to explore ancient archaeological sites, but also places of great natural beauty, such as the seabird-covered cliffs of Noup Head; the puffin nesting sites at Castle of Burrian, and many unspoilt sandy beaches.
