Learn more about Stronsay

The island has three 'limbs' of land, pinched at the centre by three large bays: St. Catherine's, Mill Bay and Bay of Holland. The island is famous for its past industries of kelp production and herring fishing. It also has many Neolithic tombs, and at least five Iron Age broch sites too. Stronsay’s white sandy unspoiled beaches are great places to go shell collecting as well as bird watching.

A walk around the southeast coast will delight visitors with geological features such as sea-stacks, caves and the spectacular sea arch at the Vat of Kirbuster.
