The journey to Shapinsay

As you exit Kirkwall harbour in the shadow of Wideford hill, you'll leave the hustle and bustle behind. On the west side you'll pass Hatston with its large pier and on the east side the outskirts of the town stretch towards Carness point.

On the east side you'll pass the small island of Thieves Holm, before you enter ‘The String' between the mainland and Shapinsay.

You'll get excellent views of Balfour Castle and the island of Helliar Holm before your ferry makes its way towards Elwick Bay and Shapinsay pier in Balfour village.
