The journey to Eglisay

As you leave Tingwall pier you’ll see the distinctive hump-backed profile of Gairsay to the east. Your ferry will soon cross Eynhallow Sound where you can look out towards the Atlantic Ocean either side of the small island of Eynhallow, which sits between the mainland and Rousay.

Your ferry will round the cardinal buoy at the Wyre Skerries and turn eastwards, navigating up the Wyre Sound between the towering hills of Rousay and low-lying Wyre. Your ferry will likely call at Rousay and possibly Wyre before heading towards Egilsay, round the point of Avelshay on Rousay’s south-easterly tip. From here you will head through the sheltered Rousay Sound, past a set of salmon farm cages towards Egilsay pier.
