They can generate 10 megawatts of power - enough to supply 12000 homes with electricity. They are owned by Scottish and Southern Energy, who divert a percentage of their income into a community fund, which gives £25,000 per year to community projects. The Sanday lunch club, community hall and school have so far benefitted from this grant.
